The Dutch night train initiative European Sleeper now also wants to run a night train to Barcelona. The train has to leave in Amsterdam and would make stops in Belgium in Antwerp and Brussels.

Earlier this month, European Sleeper announced that it wants to deploy night trains with tour operator Sunweb to the French ski resorts and the beaches of southern France. The train to Barcelona follows from those plans. “It is our intention to have a train continue to Barcelona in the summer,” said co-initiator Chris Engelsman.

He hopes that the train can run by the end of next year, but it could also be sooner or later. The sooner, the better, it sounds. The application to the Dutch regulator Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) already mentions a timetable from 10 December 2023. The train would leave three times a week.

European Sleeper was founded in 2021. The company is the first project to work on a night train from Brussels, via Amsterdam to Berlin, Dresden and Prague. The target to finish this summer was not achieved and there is no new target date yet. The initiators are confident that the train will eventually arrive. For this connection, European Sleeper is working together with the Czech railway company RegioJet.
