“His Royal Highness Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz has already passed away,” said the Royal Court in the short statement. Funeral prayers will be held on Sunday in the Great Mosque in Riyad.
Al-Waleed was often called the ‘sleeping prince’ on social media. His death came only a few weeks after a hoax went viral on social media, in which it was wrongly claimed that the prince had awakened from his coma.
Traffic accident
Al-Waleed was 15 years old when he was seriously injured in a traffic accident in London in 2005. He suffered serious brain injury and various internal bleeding. At that time he stayed in the United Kingdom for his studies as a military cadet.

The prince got into a coma and underwent several treatments by top specialists. Sometimes hopeful signals appeared: his family occasionally reported. In 2020, for example, a video showed how he lifted his fingers in response to phone calls from his aunt.
Despite these signals, he never again fully conscious. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, refused to withdraw the living support and took care of his son for the past 20 years.
