Sky: Expert Dietmar Hamann on Emre Can: “You have to use your brain”

BVB celebrated an important victory in the fight for the Champions League places against Werder Bremen. A Dortmund star still attracts harsh criticism.

TV expert Dietmar Hamann criticized BVB captain Emre Can in clear terms. Dortmund won their Bundesliga game on Saturday at SV Werder Bremen 2-1 and thus scored important points in the fight for the Champions League places. But Hamann was particularly bothered by one of Can’s actions.

In the football talk “Sky 90” the 50-year-old said: “Dortmund doesn’t have enough players they can rely on at the moment.” Stumbling block: A counterattack that Can ran in the final phase of the game against Bremen and then had to be substituted. “In Emre Can you have a captain who runs a counterattack in the 90th minute, then he shoots eight meters over the goal from a tight angle and goes down with a cramp,” said Hamann.

“Puts an away win at risk”

The former national player chose clear words for his criticism: “You have to use your brain and know what is required in the situation.” Hamann saw the action as too much of a risk: “You’re putting such an important away win at risk because he has to run the counterattack and then goes down with cramp – as captain!”

In the end, however, the scene did not take revenge for BVB. The away win remained 2-1. This means that Dortmund have secured fourth place in the table for the time being, which is guaranteed to be enough for the Champions League, and are still one point ahead of Leipzig.
