Ski jumper Selina Freitag in action

As of: January 16, 2026 11:27 a.m

In Zhangjiakou, China, Slovenia’s Nica Prevc once again delivered the best jumps and deservedly celebrated the 32nd World Cup victory of her career. But behind the second-placed Japanese Nozomi Maruyama, Selina Freitag secured her fifth podium place of the season.

The ski jumpers are on tour in Asia. They were allowed to take off from the large hill for the first time during their stop in Zhangjiakou, China. When they returned to the 2022 Olympic facility last year, the athletes only competed on the normal hill.

Prevc distances them competitors

Nica Prevc, who leads the overall World Cup, showed the best flying performances. In the first round, the Slovenian was able to clearly distance herself from her direct competitors Nozomi Maruyama (JPN) and Ping Zeng (CHN). Selina Freitag was the best DSV eagle in fourth place but was only 0.1 points short of the podium.

Freitag also showed her potential in the second jump – and because Ping made a mistake when landing, the next podium was perfect for the 24-year-old. However, the athlete from SG Nickelhütte Aue still has to wait for her first World Cup victory. Because Friday couldn’t get past Maruyama and Prevc. The 20-year-old Slovenian secured success with the best jumps of the day at 136.5 and 130 meters, clearly ahead of the Japanese.

Reisch in eighth place

In the DSV team, apart from Friday, only Agnes Reisch placed ninth in the top ten in the first round. Although she shook her head about her flight after the second set, she improved to eighth place in the overall ranking.

Katharina Schmid was not yet able to get used to the large hill and had to start the final from 14th place, Juliane Seyfarth in 19th place. Schmid moved up to 12th place in the final round and Seyfahrt to 14th place.

No final for Torazza and Holland

Emely Torazza, who moved from Switzerland to the German association in 2024, got stuck in the soft snow after her jump of 111.5 meters and fell. For this, the 21-year-old received high points deductions, which dashed her hopes of making it to the second round. Anna Hollandt also had no chance of collecting World Cup points with her short flight of 104 meters.
