Ski Jumping, Raw Air: Selina Freitag is only 0.6 points short of victory

Status: 03/13/2023 6:26 p.m

At the Raw Air in Norway, Selina Freitag just missed out on victory in the third competition. The DSV athlete was only beaten by Silje Opseth on Monday (03/13/2023).

The third Raw Air competition in Lillehammer demanded everything from the jumpers. Due to heavy snowfall, the first round had to be postponed and then the weather conditions made it difficult to do good flights. One of the victims was world champion Alexandria Loutitt, who was ranked 18th after the first round with a jump of 105 meters and even fell back to 23rd place in the final with 99.5 meters.

Eva Pinkelnig (110 and 121.5 meters) was also knocked off. However, eleventh place was enough for the Austrian to secure victory in the overall World Cup.

Opseth towers in the final

The second round also showed how unpredictable the conditions were. Eirin Kvandal went into the final with a clear lead, but fell down in seventh place. The winner was Silje Opseth thanks to the day’s best distance of 131 meters. She started the second round in seventh place.

Selina Freitag was only half a meter away from victory. After third place in the first round, the 21-year-old improved to second place thanks to a jump over 128 meters and ended up only 0.6 points behind Opseth.

Ema Klinec completed the podium in third place and extended her clear lead in the overall standings of the Norwegian “Three Hills Tournament”. After nine of twelve jumps, Klinec is now clearly ahead of Norway’s Anna Odine Ström (1,039.1) and Althaus (1,035.1) with 1,072.7 points. Friday (1,032.2) follows in fifth place.

Althaus still makes it into the top 5

The German number one Katharina Althaus missed a top placement because of a weaker first jump over 112 meters. In the second round, however, she managed one of the best jumps (128 meters) and was able to fight her way up from ninth to eighth place. Anna Rupprecht (112 and 113 meters) slipped from 14th place to 15th place in the final.

Pauline Heßler and Luisa Görlich also just made it into the second round. Both were able to improve in the final, Hessler was finally 25th with distances of 95 and 107 meters, Görlich (94 and 99.5 meters) ended up in 30th place.
