On the second day of the Ski Cross World Cup in Nakiska, Canada, the German ski crossers were able to celebrate. On Saturday (01/15/2022) Florian Wilmsmann celebrated second place. In the third to last race before the Olympic Games, the 25-year-old raced on the “Mighty Peace“-Slope in the Rocky Mountains to his best result of the season. Already on Friday (January 14th, 2022) Daniela Maier and Tobias Müller finished third. Saturday’s wins went to Canada and Sweden.

Seventh World Cup podium for Wilmsmann

On the way to the seventh World Cup podium of his career, Wilmsmann had progressed as second in the round of 16 and quarterfinals. In the semi-finals he prevailed as the winner against, among others, Friday winner David Mobaerg from Sweden. In the final he got off to a good start and took second place behind Canadian Kristofor Mahler. Although Wilmsmann was no longer able to get past Mahler, he defended second place against Swiss Ryan Regez and 2018 Olympic champion Brady Leman from Canada. With second place, Wilmsmann improved to fourth place in the overall World Cup.

Women: Naeslund on seventh win in eight races

Second place went to Marielle Thompson from Canada ahead of Fanny Smith from Switzerland. The only German starters, Daniela Maier and Johanna Holzmann, were eliminated in the quarter-finals. Maier ended up ninth, Holzmann 16th.
