At the International German Championships, Kira Weidle-Winkelmann secured the title in the departure. There was a surprise among the men: favorite Romed Baumann landed behind Luis Vogt.
The International German Ski Alpin Championships were finally able to begin with two days late. Massive new snow on the Axamer Lizum had meant that the departure races were postponed from the 1st to April 3. The magnificent picture in the most beautiful weather, which offered itself, compensated for the postponement.
Weidle-Winkelmann becomes German champion
The women started, where Kira Weidle-Winkelmann, as a clear favorite, started the championship title as a clear favorite. Dhe 29-year-old had had a disappointing World Cup season without a podium. But she could now celebrate: Weidle-Winkelmann confidently became German champion in the departure.
Behind it was shown why it is called “international” German championship: With Nicole Eibl, Pia Hauzenberger and Anna Schilcher, three Austrians were lined up behind Weidle-Winkelmann. Fabiana Dorigo was the fifth runner -up. The Kenyan Sabrina Simander became sixth. Lisa Seebacher won bronze as the eighth of international evaluation. Emma Aicher, who started almost every World Cup race, got a break. It may intervene at the giant slalom on Saturday.
Mother-daughter duo from Argentina
Guadelupe Simari Birkner and Macarena Simari Birkner from Argentina provided a special story. Daughter and mother both competed in the race. Mother Macarena finally clearly won the family duel. At the end she became twelfth, daughter Guadelupe landed in 20th place with almost 15 seconds.
Luis Vogt before Romed Baumann
The big favorite could not prevail among men. Romed Baumann was unable to beat the time that 23-year-old Luis Vogt was the first starter. The veteran lined up 51 hundredths of a second behind Vogt. So he got the German championship. Baumann became runner -up with just a hundredth of a second. Bronze went to Valentin Jachmann. Junior world champion Benno Brandis landed fourth.
