Lindsey Vonn becomes “with 75 percent” 13. At the Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and flirting with a World Cup medal in February.
When the tension had fallen off, the departure in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ended last Saturday: there laughed and then chatted on which so many pairs of eyes were addressed on this day with the former ski racer Susanne Riesch.
The American Lindsey Vonn looked satisfied at the finish line at these moments. This is despite the fact that the target sheet did not reach the target sheet on that day with a result, but had previously left a goal in the departure before her comeback. Nevertheless, it was celebrated in the target area by the approximately 5,000 spectators. She is still one of the largest ski athletes that the world has ever seen.
Superstar in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
However, their satisfaction was still on something else: the Ski World Cup in general and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in particular, that is two of their feel-good places. Here in Upper Bavaria the Christmas party at Riesch sisters celebrated Maria and Susanne. Here is a US military base nearby-she said that there were always so many US fans there. Here she scored a total of nine World Cup victories – and is still a superstar.
And here she became 13th in the Super-G the day afterwards-with just 75 percent, as she said in the BR24Sport interview. “Now I have a few more points and maybe a better start number at the World Cup.” In February in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, the world’s best ski strings will be rising medals. They are “the only goal that is possible,” said Vonn frankly.
Vonn defies all critics
The ski superstar with an artificial knee dreams four and a half years after her former resignation from another World Cup medal, it would be her ninth. “But yes, I don’t have so much time for training and not everything fits perfectly together. But yes, I will give everything as always and see how it works.”
In Garmisch, she also looked quite satisfied with her comeback season. “In the beginning, people thought that I have no chance and won’t be in the top 30. And I’m so old and and and and …”, she counted. “This is not an issue for me. I drive quite well, I have speed. And that’s all I need at the moment.”
Instead of a forerunner, Vonn drives for points
She had already approached her initial destinations “so far” after she suspected that she was even more before this season than a racer. And now after her top ranks in St. Anton (sixth in the departure, fourth in the Super-G) she is already being traded as a podium candidate.
Lindsey Vonn looked like a deeply happy person who can go back to his favorite hobby.
