Exception-winter athlete Ester Ledecka failed with her curious application to change the competition calendar at the 2026 Olympics.
The Czech wanted to have modified the schedule so that the departure of the alpine ski racers and the parallel giant slalom of the snowboarders could not take place on the same day – then Ledecka could have participated in both events. However, your application was rejected, as the World Association FIS announced at the request of the German Press Agency.
The 29-year-old wrote sports history in 2018 when she won gold on Skiern (Super-G) in Pyeongchang and on the snowboard (parallel giant slalom). Four years later, she repeated her Olympic triumph with the snowboard in Beijing.
“Unique Show” must fail
Recently, she then took downhill bronze at the Ski World Cup and hoped for a rethink of the Olympic organizers. “I hope you give me a chance,” said Ledecka, “so that I can deliver this unique show. This is my biggest dream and I really believe that I can count in both sports in both sports. I would like to have the chance to prove that. “
But now nothing becomes of it. Together with the organizers in northern Italy and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the FIS developed the schedules. It is impossible to start in both races because these take place on February 8 at the same time – and that in two different ski areas: the skiing mass in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the snowboarders in Livigno.
Advantage for snowboarder Hofmeister?
The snowboard race must take place on the second day after the opening ceremony and the descent could not be postponed to the rear, it was said by the FIS.
The German snowboarder Ramona Hofmeister could be the beneficiary of the schedule: If Ledecka decided on February 8, 2026 for a start in the departure, then the chances of the upper Bavarian to a medal or even gold would increase considerably. In 2018 in South Korea, Hofmeister became third behind Ledecka and teammate Selina Jörg.
