Sixty flights canceled at Charleroi Airport due to Ryanair pilots’ strike | Domestic

Of the 288 Ryanair flights scheduled for Thursday and Friday with departure or arrival at Charleroi airport, 58 will be canceled due to the strike by Ryanair pilots based at Charleroi airport. Brussels South Charleroi Airport reported this on its website on Wednesday. Passengers whose flights have been canceled are asked not to come to the airport.

It is the fourth time in two months that Ryanair pilots will be off work for two consecutive days. The date was not chosen at random, as a general shareholders’ meeting is scheduled for September 14 at the Irish low-cost airline.

The pilots speak of “blackmail” by the airline’s management. According to them, she only wants to start negotiations on a new collective labor agreement (around rest times) if the complaints that a number of pilots have submitted are withdrawn. According to CNE trade unionist Didier Lebbe, this is impossible because investigations are already underway.

The pilots demand that Ryanair “respect Belgian law, make overdue payments and start negotiations without conditions”. Disagreements about wages – after cuts during the corona crisis – are also part of the social conflict.

According to Lebbe, there have been some contacts with Ryanair since the first strike, but no negotiations as long as the Belgian-based pilots who went to court do not withdraw their complaints. As with previous strikes, only Charleroi airport will be affected. Ryanair is also active at Zaventem airport, but only flies there with pilots who work from foreign airports.

Affected travelers

Affected travelers will be notified and advised on options to advance or postpone their flights. “A full refund is also possible if travelers wish to cancel their flight booking,” Ryanair said on its website.
