Sixth game without a win: Bielefeld, which has been without ideas for a long time, is also in crisis against SSV Ulm

As of: January 24, 2024 9:00 p.m

DSC Arminia Bielefeld continues to have a crisis in the 3rd football league. The Arminians found no remedy against the calm people of Ulm.

On Wednesday evening (January 24th, 2024), the second division relegated team lost 0-2 (0-1) to SSV Ulm at home. Tom Gaal (10th minute of the game) scored the opening goal for the guests early on, and Moritz Hannemann (90th + 3) put the lid on it very late. Bielefeld has now been waiting for a win for six games.

Arminia is quickly thwarted by Ulm’s lead

At the beginning of the game, Arminia acted with courage, but were quickly thwarted by Ulm’s opening goal. The SSV played their first corner briefly, captain Johannes Reichert then passed through to Gaal in the penalty area. He finished with a remarkable backheel, Arminia goalkeeper Jonas Kersken parried – but the Ulm native sank the follow-up shot into the net.

Bielefeld definitely defended themselves, but there just wasn’t much going on in their build-up to the game East Westphalia. Many long passes ended up with the Ulm team, who played against the ball in a five-man chain. The Arminen had little idea what to do with most of the ball possession.

Until the half-time break, the SSV was responsible for the significantly better chances. Nicolas Jann (31′), Thomas Kastanaras (33′) and Philipp Strompf (45’+1) failed to make it 2-0 for the guests.

DSC a little more powerful in the second half, but without scoring

After just 35 minutes, Bielefeld’s coach Michel Kniat had sent the entire bench to warm up. And for the second half, the head coach brought in fresh offensive talent in club legend Fabian Klos and Nassim Boujellab. They replaced Sam Schreck and Leandro Putaro (46th).

And Kniat apparently hit the right notes in the half-time speech. Because his Arminen showed a reaction to the weak first half, acting more powerfully and more precisely in the offensive game. In addition, the DSC fought its way into the action through intensive duels and body language.

Most dangerous finish: A direct shot from Boujellab in the penalty area flew over the crossbar after a slight deflection (61′). The SSV then shut down pretty effectively again, but in the final phase something worked for the DSC. Leon Schneider tested SSV goalkeeper Christian Ortag with a powerful shot (83′), Boujellab also narrowly missed the equalizer (85′).

In the end, Bielefeld remained pointless – Hannemann then increased Ulm’s lead to 2-0 in stoppage time. Oppie had lost the ball with serious consequences in front of the penalty area.

The next 23rd matchday is for Arminia Bielefeld another duel with a top club 3rd league at. Then the DSC plays against league leaders SSV Jahn Regensburg (Saturday, 2 p.m.).
