5,000m – Parsons falls and retires

It couldn’t have been more bitter for Sam Parsons. In the first heat over 5,000 m, the DLV athlete, who lives in the USA, fell because he ran into the heel of Nicholas Kipkorir from Kenya. Parsons got back up and finished the race, but finished last (4:03.14 minutes) – no chance of participating in the World Cup final again.

In the Sportschau interview, the 29-year-old, who bravely stormed into the final in Eugene, was completely frustrated. “I wanted to do a good show that people in Germany would be proud of me,” said Parsons. “But this is sport, sometimes it’s so high and sometimes so low.”

Defending champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen (13:36.21 / Norway), who suffered a bitter defeat in the 1,500 m on Wednesday evening, advanced just as easily as the strong Ethiopian Berihu Aregawi (13:33.23). World record holder and Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei (Uganda), who won his third title in a row over the 10,000 m at the start of the World Championships, was not at the start.

Maria Perez (2:38:40 hours) made the Spanish double victory perfect for the women.
