Situation escalates: ‘Tadic wants contract termination at Ajax’

Dusan Tadic would have talks with Ajax about dissolving his contract. It is an open secret that the Serb is not satisfied with the quality of the first team. That would now have led to a rift in what has always been a successful marriage.

Yesterday, Tadic and his agent Milos Malenovic spoke at De Toekomst with director of football affairs Sven Mislintat. Initially, the scope of that conversation remained secret, but VI and De Telegraaf now report that it would have concerned a contract termination. This is expected to be completed shortly.

Hand on the snap

In 2021 Tadic extended his contract at the club, with which he will remain connected to Amsterdam until mid-2024. But a discussion has now arisen between the player who has been wearing the captain’s armband since the 2019/20 season and the board. Tadic would like Ajax to invest in better players, while the team from Amsterdam wants to keep their hands firmly in check during this transfer period.

The club believes that too much money has been spent in recent years and that due to the lack of money from the Champions League, money must first be earned before it can be spent again. Ajax would therefore like to cut the salaries of the players and sell Ajax players who are not in the plans of trainer Maurice Steijn.

High salary

The contract termination and thus the departure of Tadic would mean for Ajax that more space would be released in the financial field. The Serbian is the third best-earning player of the team from Amsterdam. His annual salary would be around 3.5 million euros.

A continuation of Tadic’s career could possibly lie in Turkey. Besiktas, which finished third in the league just like Ajax last season, has, according to various Turkish media, focused on the attacker’s merits. The club would also have submitted an official proposal to Tadic for him transfer free to take over.
