At the ATP Masters in Paris there could be the second meeting between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev within seven days.

The Italian world number two Sinner fulfilled his task brilliantly, he won against the fifth-seeded American Ben Shelton 6:3, 6:3 and is in the semi-finals.

In this he could meet Zverev on Saturday, but the Hamburg native must first defeat Daniil Medvedev later on Friday evening – the world number three and defending champion has lost the last five duels against the impulsive Russian.

The reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon champion Sinner, who would displace the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz from the top of the world rankings by winning the tournament on the Seine, narrowly defeated Germany’s top player in three sets in the final in Vienna just last Sunday.

Sinner celebrated his 24th win in a row on indoor hard courts against Shelton, although the 24-year-old also grabbed his back several times in his 400th match on the tour. Nevertheless, he was in control of the situation in the crucial moments against Shelton, who was a year younger than him and left the court as a loser against Sinner for the seventh time in a row.

The other semi-final on Saturday at the La Defense rugby arena will be contested by Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime and Kazakh Alexander Bublik. Both are still fighting for the last available ticket for the ATP Finals of the eight best professionals of the tennis year in Turin (November 9th to 16th), for which Sinner and Zverev have long since qualified.
