Trotting coach Markus Porokka tells For the Future of the Countryside that he got into a deer crash while returning from the raves in Oulu on Thursday evening.

The accident happened shortly before Paltamo, when the combination driven by Poroka, an SUV and a horse transport trailer, hit a moose that had jumped onto the road. No people or horses were injured in the crash.

– The deer came almost from the rear in front of the car. I practically didn’t manage to brake before the hit. The speed was 80 kilometers per hour, Porokka told Maaseudu Tulevaisuu.

However, he got control of the car and trailer and stopped the vehicle at a nearby intersection. The horses remained unharmed, although the sudden stop was felt in the stall.

According to Poroka, the most important thing was that people and animals survived with a scare. Instead, the car will most likely go to redemption.

– I have been able to internalize that at some point it will snap. Once before, a reindeer jumped in front of the car and hit the corner of the car. We haven’t slept much here, just a couple of hours, he told Maaseudu Tulevaisuu after a wild night.

Poroka’s farm is located in Juuka, North Karelia. The accident happened about 170 kilometers before the home farm.

Porokka and his horse Patrick O’Neil won the first start of the Oulu trot organized on Thursday.
