The blue player will not be able to access the bonus pool made available by the ATP. Compulsory tournaments missed during the suspension period have an impact. But the sponsors don’t abandon him

The three-month suspension for the Clostebol case not only deprived Jannik Sinner of the points and prizes he could have obtained in the tournaments held from February 9th to May 4th this year. Now that the ATP has released the updated ranking for the purposes of the bonus pool, further damage for the blue can be quantified. The bonus pool, to be clear, is an integration of the prize money that for some years the tour manager has been giving to the athletes who have achieved the best results on the circuit during the season. The largest prize, equal to $21 million, is distributed based on performances in the Masters 1000 and the Finals. The ranking, after Paris, sees Carlos Alcaraz in first place with 3420 points, followed by Sinner at 2350. Then Draper (1960) and Musetti (1770). Turin will define the placings, but one thing is already certain: Jannik will not receive any bonuses. In fact, an indispensable condition for accessing the prizes is participation in all the 1000 mandatory tournaments and the Finals for which one has been admitted. There are 8 out of 9 mandatory Masters: the only one that isn’t is Monte Carlo. The rule also applies in the case of suspensions, such as the one Sinner suffered after agreeing to a plea deal with Wada, at the end of an affair that lasted a year.

counts

In 2025 the blue, at Masters 1000 level, won the title in Paris and reached the finals in Rome and Cincinnati, being eliminated in the third round in Shanghai. Total, in fact, 2350 points. Only Alcaraz did better. The problem is that Jannik missed Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid (as well as Monte Carlo) because of that stop, and then gave up on Toronto in the summer to contain the fiery trip overseas. Four obligatory 1000 missed, zero bonus, in a sanctioning mechanism that provides for a 25% reduction in the prize for one missed event, 50% for two and 75% for three. So Jannik is forced to give up at least 2.3 million dollars (2 million euros), i.e. the bonus due to the second place, and clearly cannot aspire to the highest bonus, the over 4.5 million dollars (4 million euros) that go to the first place. It must be said that Alcaraz will also not receive the full bonus, but only 25% having missed three Masters 1000. But it was his choice. Sinner, however, has collected 14 million dollars in prize money this season, waiting for the Finals. Furthermore, by triumphing for the second time in the Riyadh exhibition, he secured a check of 6 million dollars. It can also count on a large and generous portfolio of partners.

renewal

The Clostebol case has not tarnished his reputation in the slightest, on the contrary. In the days immediately following Wada’s communication, new commercials aired on TV and one company even bought pages in newspapers with the claim “Forward always together”. All the sponsors considered him unrelated to any unsportsmanlike behavior and, if anything, a victim of rules that Wada itself has announced it wants to change. Very confirmed contracts, without exceptions. In August Jannik signed his 14th partnership, with luxury travel brand Explora Journeys. The latest operation was made official in the last few hours. The collaboration with Lavazza, which is also a platinum partner of the Finals, has been renewed until 2030. The coffee company linked up with Sinner in 2019, when the South Tyrolean was 140th in the world. “Jannik is much more than a brand ambassador: he is part of our family,” said President Giuseppe Lavazza. Overall, the world number 1’s sponsorships are worth 34 million a year, according to estimates provided by ChainOn to the Gazzetta.
