The surprising defeats of the top players help Spanish. Jannik avoids the derby, but on his way there are still pitfalls

This Wimbledon is a record Slam. Thirteen series heads released in the first round, as happened only once in the history of the majors: you have to go back to 2004, to the Australian Open. From Sascha Zverev to Daniil Medvedev, passing through Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune, the top of the circuit greets London with a very large advance, between sensational surprises and some predictable results. In the second round, other luxury players were added to the list of losers: see Jack Draper or Frances Tiafoe, defeated by Marin Cilic and Cameron Norrie. But the exit of these big names how does it affect the paths of the two big favorites for the conquest of the Wimbledon Trophy? For Carlos Alcaraz the path becomes something similar to a red carpet, Jannik Sinner instead breathes a sigh of relief.

The most sensational defeats came from the Carlos Alcaraz scoreboard: Zverev, Medvedev, Rune. And so his path to the final (the third eventual here in London) becomes even more flowing. With the exit of Tsitsipas, Tiafoe and Lehecka, the first series head that could find the Spaniard on his journey is the Russian Andrey Rublev, a fourteen number of the world and a possible opponent in the third round. If you look at the second week of the Slam tournament, the doors are increasingly wide open for the reigning champion. The number two of the world would meet a top 10 only in the semifinal: it would be the number five in the world Taylor Fritz, who has struggled in both rounds played at the All England Club.

Sinner

If Carlos can cheer, Jannik can only mention a smile. The number one in the world avoids the eighth final against Tommy Paul and in the quarterfinals the blue derby against Lorenzo Musetti, both entered the All England Club among the first 15 seedworms of the tournament. There is (perhaps) Ben Shelton on Sinner’s journey, dangerous for his powerful service. Looking at the lower part of the scoreboard, the host Jack Draper is also surprising to the second round, but the most difficult opponent is still present: the seven -time champion of Wimbledon Novak Djokovic is giving important signals on the English green meadows. The challenge between number one and two is also played here: the journey to the final can give a great hand to the two stars of the circuit.
