Singer Laren open longer due to successful exhibition, but ‘party not yet complete’

The exhibition about the painter Kees van Dongen in Singer Laren is so popular that the museum has adjusted its opening hours. To give all interested parties the opportunity to admire the works of the world-famous painter, the museum is currently open seven days a week, and the doors are even open in the evenings.

The names Van Gogh and Mondrian are undoubtedly better known, but Van Dongen (1877-1968), who was born in Rotterdam, certainly belongs in that list. Van Dongen turned the art world upside down with his brightly colored paintings of modern life. With the exhibition ‘Durf en Temptation’, Singer Laren zooms in on the period in which the painter became world famous.

Jan Rudolph de Lorm, director of Singer Laren, is proud of the exhibition, he says in the NH Radio Program Lunchroom. “It’s fantastic. I’m already very happy that we managed to scrape together all those art treasures from all over the world.”

Party almost complete

De Lorm had expected that the exhibition would attract many visitors to the museum. “If you then take the trouble and dare to invest in bringing the works here, then of course people will also have to come. We therefore expected that.”

However, the exhibition is not yet complete. That is only the case if the portrait of Fernande Olivier from 1907 is also hanging in Singer Laren. Olivier was Picasso’s lover, but after kicking her out of his studio, Van Dongen took over the model. This resulted in a special series of portraits, including the painting that is coming to Laren. “My favourite. This one is coming and then the party is complete,” says De Lorm.

Do you want to see the exhibition? You can do that until May 7. Tip: come on Monday, because that is the quietest day. Tickets can be reserved via the website: www.singerlaren.nl .
