Simultaneous striker battle towards Feyenoord-AZ: "I’m putting my money on Pavlidis"

Just back on Dutch soil, Pascal Jansen appears in front of the camera again. After last night’s disappointment against Aston Villa (2-1 loss), the AZ coach is preparing for Sunday’s cracker in Rotterdam against Feyenoord. “We do have something to put right.”

“We really have to be top next Sunday to fight Feyenoord,” says Pascal Jansen about this weekend’s opponent. The reigning national champion receives many compliments every week, but the Rotterdam team also lost to teams such as FC Twente, Lazio Roma and Atletico Madrid in recent weeks. “Lazio Roma got away well, because I thought Feyenoord was very good. FC Twente had a slightly different battle plan and used the long ball a little faster.”

Giménez vs Pavlidis

Feyenoord and AZ is also the duel between the top scorers. Both Santiago Giménez and Vangelis Pavlidis have thirteen goals in the Premier League. “Giménez is still a bit better at playing in depth. On the other hand, he can also learn something from Pavlidis,” Jansen looks at the difference in the strikers.

Injury time

In the last two editions, AZ lost to Feyenoord in injury time in Rotterdam. The people of Alkmaar have been warned. “It’s very annoying to be defeated at times like that. So we’re trying to change that.”
