British figure skating commentators caused a stir at the World Championships in the sport in Montpellier.

Simon Reed and Nicky Slater commented on the competition on the Youtube live broadcast of the International Figure Skating Association (ISU). The duo apparently thought their microphones were stuck as they talked to the coach Meagan Duhamelista in a derogatory tone.

Commentators discussed how Duhamel had criticized their statements on Twitter.

– Don’t worry about him, Reed said According to the Washington Post.

– I didn’t mention him by name. I almost mentioned. We didn’t say he was one of the coaches, Slater continued.

Reed then called Duhamel a “Canadian mother-in-law”.

The behavior immediately fired.

– The ISU is shocked by the language used by the two commentators, which in no way represents the position of the union. ISU strongly condemns any discriminatory or prejudiced statements, the federation commented on Twitter.

– There is no room for offensive language and comments in our sport or society.

Strange statements

Duhamel is a former pair skater. He won two world championships and a team gold medal in Korea in 2018 in his career.

Duhamel had criticized commentators on his Twitter account on Wednesday.

– The commentator on ISU’s Youtube broadcast said it’s sad when the Russians aren’t at the World Cup … And then they admitted they don’t watch figure skating often, so they’re not sure about the rounds of jumps. There are even better options for ISU! the coach wrote.

According to the coach, Reed has also apologized for his statement.

– I have received personal apologies from Reed and the chairman of the ISU. I do not think a public apology is necessary. I appreciate their apologies, Duhamel said on Twitter.

Reed and Slater will no longer comment on figure skating in alliance broadcasts.
