It was an exciting race between three strong titles: Syria without Assad from Danny Ghosen (NTR), To assure from BNNVARA and Veuls Docus series for the VPRO. Eventually convinced A false start The jury the most.

Raw reality

Veul ran a hundred days as a group supervisor at an open youth care group in Rotterdam, where he was intensively involved in the daily life of children placed out of home. At the same time, he followed pedagogues trying to support families before out -of -home placement is needed by temporarily including the entire families in so -called parenting houses.

The series shows the raw reality of the system: the complexity, the struggles and the bright spots. But also the underlying themes such as trauma and upbringing are discussed. Veul makes it personal by involving his own paternity and the difficult relationship with his father. “It felt like an internship for my own family life,” he says. “I learned a lot from it, practically and emotionally.”

No shame in parents

As is often the case with programs about vulnerable young people, there is discussion about their visibility on television. Veul emphasizes that we worked extremely carefully: “The parents themselves indicated that they wanted to cooperate. They are not ashamed, but want to share their story. In consultation with care providers, we consciously chose what we do and do not show.”

His approach is well thought out and respectful, he states: “The program is not only journalism, but also a form of support for families. And I have learned: Stay calm, also in conflict situations. If you get stuck at 60 percent of your irritation, you can respond calmly and keep control. That feels a child.”

Honorary medal for jiskefet

The honorary silver Nipkow disk will go to the legendary this year Jiskefetthe absurdist TV program that was on display at the VPRO from 1990 to 2005. With characters such as debtors/creditors and statements such as “Toedeledokie” and “Good in the morning”, the program still lives on twenty years later in the Dutch language and culture – comparable to the permanent heritage of Van Kooten and De Bie.

Michiel Romeyn came to collect the prize himself in Amsterdam on Thursday afternoon. He said on stage that such a program could no longer be made with a sneer to NPO ‘Net managers with Hugo de Jonge shoes who live on a residential area in Zoetermeer and do not know the difference between what is fun and what is not’.

Silver travel microphone for Ben Liebrand

The radio was also distinguished: the silver travel microphone went to Ben Liebrand, who came across especially from Canada to receive the prize. Liebrand is seen as a pioneer in dance music and was at the cradle of mixing as we know it now: he forged existing songs seamlessly together at pace and pitch. Big names such as Tiësto, Martin Garrix and Armin van Buuren call him as an important source of inspiration.
