A few months after the change

Just a few months after his arrival at Borussia Dortmund, Fábio Silva is apparently thinking about leaving again. According to information from “Sky”, the 23-year-old center forward is dissatisfied with his lack of playing time. The World Cup next year also plays a role. He has made one appearance for Portugal’s senior national team so far – in November 2024.
It is also said that Silva has not yet informed the BVB bosses about his desire to change in the winter. It is also doubtful whether the Black and Yellows would even let the attacker go. Silva is one of three center forwards in coach Niko Kovac’s squad. Serhou Guirassy is seeded (1,349 minutes), Maximilian Beier (1,027) is also among the most frequently used professionals, while Silva only has 106 minutes, also because he had an adductor injury at the beginning of the season. But he has been fit since the end of December. This makes him one of the most valuable players in the Bundesliga who, in comparison, only gets a small amount of playing time (see article).
Asked about the Portuguese, Kovac said at a press conference before the Champions League game against Villarreal FC (9 p.m./Amazon Prime): “I’m very happy with Fabio on the whole. But we have a lot of quality players up front. Fabio is missing out at the moment, that’s right. But I hope that we’ll see more appearances from him in the near future.”

Kovac had recently emphasized that Silva, who came from Wolverhampton Wanderers for 22.5 million euros late in the transfer window, first has to fight for his place in the team. “In general: The guys who took over last year showed great quality. That’s why it’s normal that new players have to have a little patience, even if we signed them for a lot of money. But the transfer fee doesn’t mean that the others are voluntarily clearing the way. I’m happy with our new guys, but I also know that they still need time.”
