Sigurdsson introduced as national coach in Croatia

Former national handball coach Dagur Sigurdsson is the new coach of the Croatian national team. The 50-year-old Icelander, who led the German team to win the European Championship in 2016 and the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, has now been introduced.

“I was looking for passion, a challenge and an adventure,” Sigurdsson said in a video published on the Croatian association’s homepage. Croatia is a “large, traditional handball nation”. The Icelander most recently coached the Japanese national team.

The first big task for Sigurdsson is the Olympic qualifying tournament from March 14th to 17th, where the Croatians will also meet Germany. Other opponents are Austria and Algeria. The top two in the four-person tournament will win the ticket to the games in Paris.
