The former sprint king Michael Matthews must cancel his participation in the Tour de France due to illness.
The Australian showed signs of pulmonary embolism during an altitude training session, his team Jayco Alula said on Friday (June 13th, 2025). Matthews, 34, was immediately taken out of training, and to protect his health, every physical exertion is prohibited until further notice: “He will not drive at the Tour de France.”
Matthews won the green jersey on the tour of France in 2017, and he also benefited from the fall of the German sprinter Marcel Kittel.
