Train passengers between Schiphol Airport and Hilversum had to travel half an hour longer this morning due to a signal and switch failure. Around 12.30 pm, the NS announced that the fault had been resolved. The trains are running again according to the updated timetable today.
The disruption caused delays on several routes this morning. No intercity trains ran between Schiphol and Hilversum and there were also far fewer trains between Amsterdam Central Station and Hoofddorp due to the signal and switch failure. Travelers often spent half an hour longer on the road. The signal and switch malfunctions have now been resolved, NS and Prorail report. All trains are running normally again.
Train transport was not only in our province. Fewer Intercity trains also ran between Leiden Central Station and The Hague Central Station due to the signal and switch failure. There were also no intercity trains between Leiden Central and Almere Center due to the disruption.
The NS has adjusted the timetable and it was possible for travelers to travel from Hilversum to Schiphol, but it took longer than usual and changes had to be made more often. The latest travel information can be found in the NS travel planners.
New timetable
Today is the first working day on which NS trains run according to a new timetable. After the announcement, the timetable was not well received by everyone and the NS received a lot of criticism from travelers, municipalities and the Province.
