Tomorrow the Ajax – Groningen match will be played without an audience. With the exception of one person: the terminally ill man is allowed to attend. The match starts at 2:30 PM.

“Very special,” says foundation chairman Milco de Vries. “I actually had a hard time about it. But my compliments to the municipality and Ajax: apparently they are so concerned about this that they want to make an exception. This man is an Ajax fan through and through.”

“Things are getting worse”

Volunteer AndrĂ© from Wenseambulance Noord-Holland, who is involved in fulfilling the last wish, told earlier today in an interview with AT5 how disappointed the man was by the cancellation of the match. “He was really looking forward to this day. So it’s just very sad that this is canceled out by the fireworks.”

Right from the start of the match, the volunteer had the feeling that things could go wrong. “We got earplugs from the first aid station, and I was already a bit scared,” he said.

When the fireworks appeared on the field for the second time, they immediately decided to bring the Ajax player back by ambulance. Ajax permanently abandoned the match because the safety of players and supporters could no longer be guaranteed.
