Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus. The Russian military leader told the head of state about the exercises in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, which the Navy is conducting, the military department of the Russian Federation reports.
In addition, Shoigu and Assad discussed the joint fight against terrorism in the Arab Republic and the supply of humanitarian aid to the Syrians.
Earlier, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation visited the Tartus logistics center and the Khmeimim air base. In particular, Sergei Shoigu spoke with the crews of long-range bombers.
Recall, on February 15, Russian troops landed in Khmeimim long-range bombers Tu-22M3 and MiG-31K interceptors with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. They will also take part in fleet maneuvers.
