‘She’s so stupid in real life’

Maxime Meiland does not play a character in her family’s reality shows. She really is as stupid as she appears on TV. That is what the owner of a liquor store who collaborated on Chateau Bijstand says.

The owner of a liquor store in Uithoorn had the Meiland family in his shop last month. They were then in the middle of filming their reality soap Chateau Bijstand, in which they live on welfare level. “They offered to come and work for a few hours in exchange for some bottles of wine,” he tells the Story.

Not a high IQ

Daughter Maxime Meiland eventually worked in the store for a long Saturday morning. “That was laughing, howling and howling. No, that hasn’t been leaked. I had to sign a contract. I wasn’t allowed to say anything or post anything on Facebook. Nothing.”

She’s a sweet girl, but not very smart, says the booze. “Maxime is a nice girl. She doesn’t seem too bright on TV. At first I thought: that must have been played. But that’s not true. She doesn’t have a very high IQ. Absolutely not.”

5.55 euros

Does he have an example of Maxime’s lack of intelligence? “I had a man in the store who came to pay for two beers. That cost 5.55 euros. So the man put down three two-piece coins and said, “I’ll add a nickel.” Then Maxime gave him one euro back.”

“I saw the cameraman look strange and make eye contact. The customer then said, “I’ll get fifty cents back.” “Oh, oh, I suppose so, said Maxime.” But she’s a really nice girl. No, she’s not coming to work again. This was a one-off.”
