NEC brings Tjaronn Chery back to Nijmegen

The ambitious NEC, which is hard on the road this transfer summer, has presented the fourth reinforcement. Tjaronn Chery returns to Nijmegen. The 37-year-old midfielder comes directly from Royal Antwerp FC, the club for which he left NEC last year. A small reimbursement sum is involved. On his return to Nijmegen, Chery signs a contract up to and including the summer of 2028.

Chery played eighteen duels for NEC in the 2023/2024 season, in which he was good for 6 goals and four assists. At Royal Antwerp, Chery scored 18 goals last season and provided nine assists in 45 games. This makes Chery in the top 10 scoring midfielders in the ten best competitions in Europe.

Director of player shops Carlos Aalbers closely followed Chery’s performance in Belgium last season. “I didn’t have to think long when the opportunity to get Tjaronn back to the Netherlands,” said Aalbers. “With Tjaronn we bring in a top professional who is not nearly ready. With his wealth of experience and scoring capacity, he will be of value here for our club, just like in his earlier period.”

Tjaronn Chery is looking forward to his new period in Nijmegen. ,, What am I most looking forward to? That when I score again, the entire stadium sings my song again. ” NEC has previously strengthened itself with Gonzalo Crettaz (transfer -free from Castellon), Virgil Misidjan (transfer -free from Ferencvaros) and Youssef El Kachati (transfer -free from Telstar).
