Sheldon van der Linde grabs pole position

Pole position and thus the grid position on the left for Schubert-BMW driver Sheldon van der Linde after the two-part DTM qualifying on Saturday at the Norisring.

The defending champion set the fastest lap time of 48.775 seconds on the 2.163 kilometer race track.

Second place went to Manthey EMA Porsche driver Thomas Preining, who was the fastest driver in the first starting group with a time of 48.933 seconds, but had the disadvantage of having an earlier turn and therefore did not benefit from the additional rubber abrasion.

The grid positions were allocated alternately, group by group, regardless of the lap times, with the faster group starting on the left and the slower group on the right: Bernhard driver Ayhancan Güven is third, another Porsche driver, followed by HRT driver Luca Stolz in fourth place first Mercedes-AMG driver follows.

The fastest Audi and Lamborghini drivers, Abt driver Kelvin van der Linde and SSR driver Mirko Bortolotti, follow in fifth and sixth place. Sheldon van der Linde’s teammate Rene Rast starts from seventh place in the second-best BMW.

It was a disappointment for Landgraf Mercedes driver Maro Engel, who drove in the first starting group and only finished 14th. Local hero Marco Wittmann has to make do with 17th place.
