A good six months after the controversial opening of a store area of the cheap online platform Shein in Paris, the provider is to disappear from the traditional department store BHV Marais. The cooperation will be ended, said the management of the store, which is taking over the department store from the current owner SGM. An exact date was not announced. According to French newspaper Le Parisien, management wants Shein to move out by the end of the year. Shein in the BHV Marais was a mistake.
A Shein store was opened in the Paris department store in November amid great crowds and protests. It was the online retailer’s first such store area; others followed in other BHV department stores. The BHV Marais announced that it wanted to concentrate more on items around the home again. Management did not go into further detail about Shein in its statement.
According to French media reports, some brands turned their backs on the department store after Shein moved in. However, there had already been payment defaults or delays beforehand. “Le Parisien” wrote that customers were sometimes absent.
