Eva Jinek’s departure from RTL 4 leads to a critical reaction from Guido den Aantrekker, Story’s editor-in-chief. “She has put a lot of focus on her family in recent years.”

Eva Jinek has decided to return to public broadcasting after four years at RTL 4. TV experts think that her choice for AvroTros is partly due to the fact that she no longer wants to work late at night, because it is more difficult to combine with her family life. She will soon give birth to her second child.

‘It’s too much about Eva’

It leads to misunderstanding at Guido den Aantrekker, the editor-in-chief of Story. “It has all been very much about Eva Jinek herself in recent years, hasn’t it? If you also look at her career, it is actually a kind of patchwork of all kinds of broadcasters that she has completed on a kind of tour to grow herself,” he says in Show news.

He continues: “It started with the NOS, eventually with WNL, KRO-NCRV, then to RTL. Also with the agenda she kept, which in my perception really showed her about a net quarter a year, I think it’s a bit ridiculous that we’re pretending we’re talking about a huge talent here.

Grow along

Guido thinks that Eva has not been so ambitious since she became a mother. “I know that Eva was once born in showbiz country America and always wanted to be the talk show queen. Oprah was actually her great role model. Then you also have to grow with an audience and give the audience a chance to see you in a permanent place for a very long time.”

That won’t work if you’re on holiday with your family for half the year and keep moving to a different channel, says Guido. “Guys, what are we talking about? I think: just show your strength for once.”

Too much focus on family

Guido is a bit done with it. “Noblesse oblige, I sometimes say. If you get the chance from all those broadcasters, then I might be a little disappointed that because she’s building a family, she’s kind of throwing in the towel. That’s my opinion.”

He concludes: “I think she has put a lot of focus on her family in recent years. That is allowed, everyone is free to do so, but I also know that if you really want to reach the top in showbiz and in TV land, you sometimes have to add a little water to the wine. I now have the impression that it is very much about her agenda.”
