Tyla and her label mate Zara Larsson bring back the turn of the century with their joint song “She Did It Again”. The track combines R&B with pop elements and is a tribute to one of the biggest pop stars of the 21st century: Britney Spears herself.

The two trade verses on the lead single from Tyla’s upcoming sophomore album “A-Pop.” “I’m addictive, baby, what you want me to do?/Not a quick fix, one hit might ruin you,” warns Tyla, before Larsson lays the throwback line over the beat: “Put a man on his knees, not trying to tease/Oops, did it again like Britney.”

The music video is elegantly restrained and shows Tyla and Larsson dancing between desert architecture and waterfalls. “This felt like the most natural thing that has ever happened,” Larsson wrote in a message to ROLLING STONE. “I love this girl – in the studio as well as in real life. I’m so excited for the world to hear this and dance to it all summer because personally, I just can’t stop moving my hips.” Tyla also spoke up briefly: “It’s A*POP Emergency!”

Tyla’s successful year

“She Did It Again” arrives amid another exceptionally successful year for Tyla, who received four nominations at the American Music Awards in May, including Best Female R&B Artist, Best Afrobeats Artist and, for her hit “Chanel,” Social Song of the Year and Best Music Video.

In 2024, Tyla won her first Grammy with the newly created award for Best African Music Performance for her breakthrough track “Water.” Last year she won her second Grammy in the same category for “Push 2 Start” – the hit from the deluxe album of her debut “Tyla+”.

Larsson, for her part, received her first Grammy nomination in February, in the Best Dance Pop Recording category for “Midnight Sun.” The singer also has a series of summer festival appearances coming up, including the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend, Chicago’s Lollapalooza and more.
