“To anyone who is afraid of losing someone, know that angels are watching over you.”
Around a week after the death of Pogues singer Shane MacGowan, his wife Victoria Mary Clarke posted a moving message on social media about his funeral. Her post is intended not only to explain her feelings about the funeral taking place on Friday (December 8th), but also to encourage those who are also suffering right now.
“I feel like Shane is with me”
The 57-year-old presents in one Instagram post a photo showing her with her husband, holding hands and laughing. She writes: “Tomorrow is Shane’s funeral, which is hard to understand and I probably won’t believe it for a while.” She continues: “Shane hated funerals and refused to go to them, with a few exceptions. That’s why it’s incredible that so many people want to come to his funeral and that so many wonderful people put their hearts and souls into making it great, magical and unforgettable for him and for us who remain behind.”
Shane MacGowan was 65 years old and passed away on November 30, 2023. After battling severe encephalitis for months, he died according to Clarke as a result of pneumonia. “I feel like Shane is with me all the time and that he feels intense appreciation and gratitude and that he is still sending love ❤️ to everyone, perhaps in an even stronger way from where he is now,” writes you further.
Declaration of love and compassion for fellow sufferers
“I couldn’t have asked for a more valuable and lasting love as a human being ❤️ and I’ve gotten so much from my relationship with Shane that it would be greedy to want more,” explains Clarke. She and MacGowan have been together since Married in 2018 and celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on November 26, four days before his death.
In his life, the singer has often attracted attention for his drug use and risky lifestyle. His widow now wants to encourage people who are facing similar difficulties: “I want to say to anyone who is in a relationship with someone who has problems with addiction, anxiety or depression to please heal yourself and get help , and that he should take care of himself so that he has the strength to move on and enjoy his love.”
She adds: “And to anyone who is afraid of losing someone, know that millions of angels are watching over you and supporting you.” A few weeks before his death, Clarke had reported that she was afraid of her husband’s passing have.
Call to charity
Clarke also wants to encourage more people to remember MacGowan and appeals to charity: “And if you don’t want to come to the funeral, I’m sure Shane would understand, he wouldn’t want to go either! But if you want to remember him, the next time you see a homeless person, stop and give them your time, your compassion and your respect and treat them like a brother or sister.”
