Shane MacGowan and Sinéad O’Connor: Tribute concert announced

Dropkick Murphys, Cat Power and Amanda Palmer will perform there, among others.

A concert honoring the late Sinéad O’Connor and Shane MacGowan will take place at New York’s City Winery on March 20th. Under the title “Sinéad & Shane at Carnegie Hall”, some of their friends from the music industry will come together and perform the two of their hits in their very own versions.

Celebrity tributes to MacGowan and O’Connor

Sinéad O’Connor died on July 26, 2023 at the age of 56. Shane MacGowan recently died on November 30, 2023, aged 65, from pneumonia after battling encephalitis for months. Since the deaths of the two music icons, prominent personalities have repeatedly spoken out to pay their last respects to both O’Connor and MacGowan and to assure the bereaved of their support. Among the mourners at the funerals were Bono, Bob Geldorf, Michael Stipe, Nick Cave and Johnny Depp.

The event, which is now intended to pay tribute to the two of them together, will take place on March 20th in New York City, and some guests who are planning musical contributions have already been announced. So far announced are Dropkick Murphys, Cat Power, David Gray, Amanda Palmer, Glen Hansard, Eugene Hütz, Gordon Gano, The Mountain Goats, Bettye Lavette, Julia Cumming, Kat Edmonson and Resistance Revival Chorus. More acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets and dates

Some tickets for the gig are already available now. Sales of standard tickets begin on January 22nd, VIP packages are already available. These were all named after successful songs by O’Connor and MacGowan. This includes the “Nothing Compares 2 U” bundle, which includes working on the show’s setlist with the producer and CEO of City Winery. “A Pair of Brown Eyes” includes access to a five-course meal with all participating artists, admission to the concert and rehearsals, and a safe seat for two people on stage during the grand finale. The remaining three packages are named “Lucky Charm,” “Transmetropolitan,” and “Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah.”
