Sexual harassment played down: Coach Bouhazama leaves Angers SCO

Among the weakest in Europe

Abdel Bouhazama has resigned from his post as manager of French first division club Angers SCO after making a comment that downplayed sexual harassment. The decision was made the evening before by mutual agreement between the management and the coach, the club announced on Tuesday. The club does not accept any form of discrimination and condemns sexism and misogyny.

A player who has to answer for the sexual harassment of a woman in a nightclub, Bouhazama tried to defend with inappropriate words, as reported by several media with reference to witnesses. “It’s not bad, we’ve all groped girls.” In order to clear up all ambiguities and misunderstandings, the association emphasized that it condemned the statement unreservedly, even if it was made less out of sexism and more out of clumsiness. Bouhazama apologized to his colleagues, especially female colleagues.

Like the newspaperLe Figaro“ reported, the coach was already under pressure due to a lack of sporting success. Angers brings up the rear in Ligue 1 and is twelve points behind the saving bank, and the team is one of the weakest in form in the five top leagues in Europe. Bouhazama only took over as coach at the end of November.
