The heavy rainfall began above Lombardy already deep into the night. There was 30 Millimeter rain in the northern part of Milan and more than 80 millimeters in Paderno Dugnano and Seveso, report Italian weather services. Code Oranje applies there to the northern cities. Code Geel was issued for the rest of the region.

In Piemonte, the rain meters have registered more than 265 mm of water for the past 24 hours (upper Bormida valley) and more than 100 mm between Ovadesis and Acquese.

The most critical situation is currently being reported around Ovada. There are several flooded streets. The firefighters intervene for various stranded vehicles, report Italian media. There have been no deaths so far.

Due to critical weather conditions, the traffic of trains in San Giuseppe di Cairo, on the lines Savona-Turijn and Savona-Alessandria, is canceled, Trenitalia says.
