One of the people who was seriously injured in a collision with a car during the annual Lichtjestour in Nunspeet, Gelderland, has died in hospital. This was reported by the Gelderland police, who do not want to say anything about the age or place of residence of the victim “in connection with traceability”, on Wednesday evening. X.

At least a hundred people, many families with children from a nearby new housing estate, gathered at a roundabout in a suburb of Nunspeet on Monday evening in anticipation of the festively illuminated procession of tractors that annually departs from Elburg in the week before Christmas and also visits Nunspeet. Before the tractors arrived, a small gray car drove over the roundabout at high speed, after which it veered out of the bend, hit waiting people, and came to a stop twenty meters away on a grassland.

The 56-year-old female driver has been arrested, as is usual in a serious traffic accident, but mayor Céline Blom said on Monday that the authorities are assuming a “fatal accident”. She suggested the driver had become unwell. On Tuesday, the woman, who is in hospital with minor injuries, had not yet been heard by the police. In any case, she was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

In addition to the driver, eight other injured people were hospitalized on Monday. According to the ANP news agency, Mayor Blom announced on Wednesday that five people are still in hospital. All the injured children, Blom did not know exactly how many there were, have now been released from the hospital.
