Karl Geiger wanted to attack Innsbruck as eighth in the overall tour standings. Instead, the German made a mistake and missed the second round.

He certainly imagined it differently: For Karl Geiger, the first round of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck went differently than he had hoped. The DSV eagle showed a decent jump and landed after 124 meters. However, the 31-year-old visibly had problems landing and slipped.

As a result, despite a reasonable distance, he lost his duel against the American Kevin Bickner. Geiger therefore had to hope to get ahead via the Lucky Losers. But that didn’t work either and he was eliminated.

When asked about his difficulties on ARD, he said: “It’s just a bit mirrory, a bit slippery. I didn’t do the jump properly, then I cut my skis. Luckily I didn’t fall, but that’s what it does As far as posture points go, it’s pretty painful.”

When asked how he felt because he didn’t qualify directly, Geiger also said: “I hope it’s enough because the jump was actually better. Still not as I’d hoped, but I do It’s really difficult for me here and a jump would be nice, but with the posture grades it’s getting really tight.”

In the end it wasn’t enough and Geiger was eliminated. This is a bitter setback for the DSV Adler. In the overall ranking of the Four Hills Tournament, Geiger was eighth before jumping in Innsbruck. By missing the second round, the German slipped down in the overall ranking. With Philipp Raimund, Andreas Wellinger and Pius Paschke, only three Germans made it to the second round. In general, a result that should not satisfy national coach Stefan Horngacher.
