In the second leg of the Nations League final against Germany, the Spaniards will have to do without their world footballer. Aitana Bonmatí was seriously injured.

Serious setback for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team: World footballer Aitana Bonmatí fractured her left fibula during training with Spain on Sunday. The three-time Ballon d’Or winner will be out for several months and will also miss the second leg of the Nations League final against Germany on Tuesday. The Spanish association confirmed this in the evening.

Bonmatí had “finished the session with pain” after a fall, as the association announced. Examinations subsequently revealed the diagnosis “fracture of the left fibula”. According to Catalan media, the downtime is at least two months; if an operation is necessary, the break could be extended to over three months. The 27-year-old was still on the pitch in the 0-0 first leg draw against Germany on Friday.

The injury represents a bitter loss for Barcelona: Bonmatí will miss the Champions League games against Benfica and Paris FC in December and the Spanish Supercopa in January. In the league, too, the league leaders, who are currently six points ahead of Real Sociedad, have to make do without their playmaker for the time being. In the premier class, Barça leads the group stage together with Lyon.
