Series of the week: “Hacks” (review & stream)

The flood of series is now so great that nobody can keep an eye on everything – and in 2022 a few great series slipped through that we don’t want to leave unmentioned. The streaming service RTL + is not necessarily the very first address when series junkies need new material. But between episode 7640 of “Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten”, “Bachelor In Paradise”, “Temptation Island VIP” and “Bauer sucht Frau” lurk grandiose treasures.

One of them is the comedy series “Hacks”, which found its German home there with a very long delay (one and a half years) – and maybe that’s why something went under. Jean Smart, who is sensational as always, won an Emmy for best leading actress for her role in the fall for the second time. She plays comedy legend Deborah Vance, who loses her show in Las Vegas and, on the advice of her agent, teams up with a young writer (Hannah Einbinder) who is every bit as stubborn and unruly as she is.

“Hacks” wonderfully viciously stages the clash between two women who come from different generations but have in common that they have to make their way in an industry run by old white men: a series that is not only great fun but also teaches you that it doesn’t always have to be Netflix, Amazon Prime or Sky.
