Again an elderly man was robbed of his jewelry in broad daylight. A 73-year-old from Eindhoven was surprised on Monday in his scooter by a woman who suddenly appeared behind him. A fraction of a second later he lost his golden necklace and the wedding ring of his deceased wife.

This form of crime is more common: comparable robberies took place in Helmond and Valkenswaard in March. Every time it happens in the same devious way. “My father went to the shopping center with his Chihuahua on Monday to drink a cup of coffee, as he does so often,” says daughter Linda Habraken about the incident.

“When he went home again, he let the dog pee at the lawn next to primary school Startblok. Suddenly he heard someone calling from behind:” Daddy, Daddy! “

“Now that he looks like an old man, they dare,”

Before her father realized it, there was a strikingly small woman in a white dress behind him. “She spoke English, but my father doesn’t understand that. She rumbled with all kinds of jewelry and pretended to have dropped something. In the meantime, she has stolen his golden chain with a pendant and wedding ring in no time.”

The man remained stunned. “He still doesn’t understand how it could have happened so quickly,” says Habraken. “Because he is not so mobile, he did not see her coming and he could not go behind her. Ten years ago they had never tried this. Now that he looks like an old man, they dare.”

“It’s a very sad matter.”

The police say they are familiar with the working method. “It’s a very sad thing,” says a spokesperson. “It happens throughout the country and often older people are the victims. They are embraced or in a different way. A little later the victim discovers that he or she is robbed of jewelry, who often have great emotional value.”

After the report in Eindhoven, the police searched for the suspicious woman. “Unfortunately she was no longer found. Furthermore, neighborhood research has also been done in the area. Until now we have no clues or camera images.”

Daughter Linda Habraken hopes that the jewelry will return to her father. “That necklace doesn’t really matter, but the ring has an emotional value. To be honest, I have little faith in it.”
