November 2 – 11.44pm – MILAN

Here’s everything that happened on a very packed Sunday, with 16 games, big matches and great entertainment in all three groups. (Click here for the Serie C standings)

GROUP A

Vicenza starts to run again, with 7 victories at home in as many matches: Giana’s practice resolved by Talarico with a header late on, after Previtali had equalized the goal of Caferri’s ex. The chasing couple keeps pace. Brescia win in Trieste thanks to Cazzadori, fourth success in a row for Diana – despite the revamped attack – and second knockout suffered by Attilio Tesser since he returned to Triestina (protests from the hosts due to some refereeing decisions). Lecco was overwhelming, putting the all-important win at Arzignano with four goals in 40′: the usual Sipos scored again, as did the man of the match Zanellato (at 4-1, the guests missed a penalty with Mattioli). The rise of Cittadella di Iori continues, which overturns Pro Vercelli thus achieving the fourth consecutive success (Vita decisive, debut for the latest arrival Falcinelli). No goals but emotions in the final between Lumezzane and Renate: Ferro hits the post, but then the Brescians have Drago to thank for the decisive save on Spedalieri.

GROUP B

The big match between the second teams is taken by Ravenna, who narrowly beat Ascoli (first defeat in the championship) thanks to the substitute Okaka and come back to within one of Arezzo: for the 36-year-old attacker, regenerated after a long inactivity, four goals in the last three matches between the championship and the cup. Behind the big names, the two surprising freshmen continue to run. Forlì moved on to Livorno, putting Formisano in trouble, while Guidonia – Sannipoli’s winning free kick – condemned Samb to their fourth defeat in a row in the championship, even if at 0-0 Sbaffo missed a penalty. Ternana come back to draw in the Gubbio derby (the time-expired penalty was disputed, converted by Pettinari) and Perugia, which reaches Pontedera thanks to Manzari’s Olympic goal (four points in two games under Giovanni Tedesco’s management). The home defeat against Carpi – Cortesi cold from the spot – causes Michele Pazienza to be replaced by Torres: it is the third consecutive dismissal for the coach, after those of Avellino and Benevento.

GROUP C

It turns out to be an interim round, because – after Catania – Salernitana and Benevento also draw. However, Salernitana remains at the top after the 0-0 draw in Latina, followed by over two thousand fans. It seemed to be possible to shorten Benevento, who went ahead with Manconi but then wasted it and was caught by Sorrento (in numerical superiority due to the red card at Ceresoli, D’Ursi was good at taking advantage of an erroneous back pass from Ricci). With the clear 3-0 against a bad Foggia, Potenza consolidates De Giorgio’s bench. Trapani moves back towards the playoff zone, winning in Crotone (Grandolfo decisive) giving Longo’s team a third defeat in a row (not in question for the club, which is also thinking about renewal). Another smile for Giugliano, regenerated by the Capuano treatment: after going through to the cup, Siracusa was also beaten. – It turns out to be an interim round, because – after Catania – Salernitana and Benevento also draw.
