Saturday full of matches: in group A the Venetians and Lombards consolidated first and second place, Renate also won. In group B equal between Sambenedettese and Livorno, Pineto gets into trouble with Perugia. Cavese and Atalanta U23 win in group C
Here’s everything that happened in this Saturday’s packed programme, with 14 matches from all three groups.
GROUP A
—
Vicenza’s race to the top continues, maintaining their huge lead (16 points) over second place unchanged: in Zanica, AlbinoLeffe’s pitch, Fabio Gallo’s league leaders risked hitting Parlati’s crossbar in the first half but then prevailed thanks to the penalty (contact between Potop and Cuomo, with some protests for the holding that appeared to be mutual) converted by substitute Morra. By deservedly beating Lecco in the direct clash, Brescia consolidated their second place: captain Balestrero unlocked the lead following a corner development (second consecutive goal) who also provided the assist for Marras’s second, then Cazzadori’s hat-trick – taking advantage of a wrong exit by Furlan – with Marrone who shortened when it was too late. In the race for third place, Renate advances its candidacy and confirms its excellent form: the 3-0 on the Dolomiti Bellunesi pitch is uneventful, with Delcarro leading the way (goals and assists) and the Venetians in even more difficulty after Olonisakin’s expulsion at the end of the first half (elbow assessed by the FVS). Renate thus reaches Trento, held back after a streak of victories by the 1-1 home draw with Lumezzane: Giannotti surprises Drago from distance and responds to Napolitano, but the guests hit the crossbar in the final with Malotti. In the 0-0 all-Milan draw between Inter U23 and Alcione (match played in Monza), the main emotion remains the post hit by Topalovic in the second half. In the salvation clash, however, Pro Patria goes ahead by two but then gets caught up – with 10 men, red to Sassaro – by Virtus Verona thanks to a brace (within 5′) by Cernigoi: at 1-0 Desogus, scorer of the first goal, has a penalty saved by Scardigno.
GROUP B
—
A night in second place for Ascoli, awaiting tomorrow’s big match Arezzo-Ravenna. Tomei’s team beats Carpi with their fifth victory in the last six matches, once again scored by the excellent D’Uffizi who climbs to the top (12 goals) of the group’s top scorers. On Wednesday Ascoli will go to San Benedetto for the highly anticipated derby (third of the season, between the championship and the Italian Cup), finding a Samb team finally able to move the table (0-0 with Livorno) after four defeats in a row. Pineto also puts a poker of defeats behind them, winning at the Curi thanks to D’Andrea’s goal and leaving Perugia in trouble (Giovanni Tedesco’s bench ends up under observation). Forlì winks at the playoffs, moving away from the red zone by beating Torres with a brace from Franzolini (on the first goal, influenced by the error of goalkeeper Zaccagno who lets the ball blow in an attempt to build).
GROUP C
—
Black crisis for Foggia, who suffer their seventh defeat in a row: Casarano passes Zaccheria, Cajazzo resolves in full injury time, completing the turnaround after Versienti had equalized D’Amico’s initial lead. Atalanta U23, on the other hand, relaunched their efforts towards the playoff goal, passing with authority in Trapani (fourth defeat in the last 5): Manzoni’s goal, a volleyed left foot after controlling the run with his right (then doubled by substitute Cissé), earned applause. Cavese saves, scoring two goals in the second half against the great former Enzo Maiuri’s Cerignola. Picerno and Altamura are content to move the table: in the final, a great save by Alastra avoids the third knockout in a row for Devis Mangia’s team.
