Serie C: Padova doesn’t give up, Pescara without Zeman ok. Taranto, night in second place

Mantua’s pursuers do their duty: an easy 4-0 win over Arzignano at Euganeo. In the first match without the Bohemian, the Abruzzo team beat Lucchese. In the advance round of group C, Capuano’s team beats Catania

Eight Serie C matches are scheduled for Saturday, with the three groups involved. Here’s everything that happened.

group a

Padova does its thing, trying to put a little pressure on league leaders Mantua (playing tomorrow in Novara): the match against Arzignano (4-0) at Euganeo is historyless, having already been defeated within 10 minutes of the brace of Liguori, followed by the centers of Zamparo – first with the new shirt, he arrived in January from Entella – and Dezi. Torrente’s team, at least for one night, thus moves to within five points of the top. In the playoff zone, Pro Vercelli falls again (third knockout in a row, eight rounds without success) on the pitch of a Pergolettese team regenerated by Giovanni Mussa’s return to the bench: at Voltini it ends 3-0, with the penalty converted by Mazzarani (foul by Parodi on Artioli) and the two restarts by Bariti and Guiu Villanova (all in the second half and within eight minutes) to close the score. Trento also passes (1-0, Rada) on the pitch of a Pro Sesto team that is increasingly in crisis, penultimate and with their fourth defeat in a row: the bench of Massimo Paci, who took over from Parravicini a month ago, is also at risk. At the bottom remains Alessandria, who nullifies the success in recovery (just with Pro Sesto) by being overtaken at Moccagatta by AlbinoLeffe (1-0): it is Gusu who ruins the party for the 112 years of the grays, who took to the pitch with a celebratory shirt.

group b

In the first of the post-Zeman era, with Giovanni Bucaro who inherited the bench from the Bohemian, Pescara returned to winning ways after three defeats: at the Adriatico Lucchese started well but wasted, only to find themselves punished (1-0) by the ninth center seasonal by Davide Merola. The biancazzurri thus start again in pursuit of third place, while Torres seems to have consolidated second place after the success in Friday’s advance match (2-1) on the Pontedera pitch. Ancona collapses at Del Conero, being overturned by a healthy Rimini (3-1): ahead with Saco after a good first half, Colavitto’s team concedes three goals in ten minutes at the start of the second half from Morra, Garetto and Langella . After a very long three months without a win, Recanatese is resurrected and takes advantage of Zagnoni’s clumsy own goal (1-0) to prevail in the derby with Vis Pesaro.

group c

After the only advance, Eziolino Capuano’s Taranto – who doesn’t miss a beat at home – gives themselves a Saturday evening in second place (together with Picerno, playing tomorrow in Messina): in fact, Catania also falls at Iacovone (1-0 ), punished at the start by De Marchi’s first goal for the rossoblù (January reinforcement, from Padova). Cianci, a fresh ex, came close to equalizing in the second half for Lucarelli’s team who – looking at the championship standings – seriously risk being left out of the playoffs. In the immediate future, however, Catania’s great objective is the second leg of the semi-final of the Italian Cup: on Wednesday Rimini will arrive at Massimino, having won 1-0 in the first leg (in the other match, Padova-Lucchese, we will start from ‘1-0 for the Tuscans).
