Serie C: Catania draw and Sturaro sent off. Ok Juve Stabia and Ancona, Avellino bad

Picerno surpasses Sorrento with the usual Murano. The resignation of Brindisi coach Roselli rejected, in tears after the defeat against Latina

The 25th day ends with the Sunday dedicated (above all) to group C, overlooking the midweek round which will take place between Tuesday and Thursday. Here’s everything that happened.

group b

Only one postponement, the one at Del Conero between Ancona and Olbia, with Colavitto’s team returning to home success (2-0): Saco scored in the first half and substitute Paolucci in the second half, second defeat in a row for the Sardinians again penultimate.

group c

The round favorable to the leaders – also Mantua and Cesena in the other two groups – is completed by Juve Stabia, who takes a very precious victory in Monopoli (3-1) to defend the six points on second place and extend to +10 on Avellino. The success of Pagliuca’s team comes by reversing the initial Apulian advantage signed on a penalty by Borello: Piovanello scored with a brace, in between the fifth yellow-blue goal by Adorante, a super signing of the January transfer market (reversal facilitated by the double numerical inferiority of the hosts, Hamlili sent off at the end of the first half and De Risio midway through the second half). The closest pursuer remains Picerno, who beat Sorrento (2-0) with the 17th goal of the championship by top scorer Murano and the doubling by Albertini (third success in a row without conceding a goal, nervousness in the post-match in which the coach Maiuri from Campania denounced tensions on the pitch, also generated by a slap from Murano himself to a ball boy). Avellino is seriously losing contact at the top and suffers their second consecutive defeat at home against Messina in excellent form (1-0, goal by Manetta). The expected match between Cerignola and Taranto ends goalless, with the home team having to complain about Malcore’s missed penalty (Vannucchi’s save) in the first half. However, Lucarelli’s Catania continues to struggle, booed by its fans: in the 0-0 draw with Casertana the negative protagonist is Stefano Sturaro, January cover signing and immediately captain on his debut, sent off for a double yellow after just 50′. Second consecutive success (and fifth useful result) for Bertotto’s Giugliano, who got the better of Francavilla (2-1) in a match conditioned by defensive errors: immediately ahead with Balde, the Campania team were joined by Neglia in the second half, but the they emerged at the end with Salvemini’s goal which earned them a foot in the playoff zone. First three points at the helm of Turris for Leonardo Menichini: the 2-0 over Foggia (which slips into a risky position) was scored by D’Auria and Pugliese. Latina also smiles again, moving on to Brindisi (2-1), putting the Apulians in more and more trouble (joined at the back by Monterosi): Marcello Trotta’s first goal in the blue and white was useless, then overturned by Fabrizi’s brace. The Brindisi coach, Roselli, resigned in tears in the press room but the club rejected his resignation and renewed its trust in him. On the sidelines, Potenza – equal to Teramo with Monterosi on Saturday – left captain Caturano out of the squad for “disciplinary reasons”, a decision also supported by coach Marchionni.
