In Group C there is a great fight at the top: Catania beats Benevento, Cosenza relaunches
Thirteen games, a derby that had been missing for 39 years, a thousand emotions. And above all an open fight at the top in all three groups. Here’s what happened in the Serie C matches on Sunday, while waiting for the matches on Monday.

Vicenza slowed down and – after eight victories in a row – returned from Trento with a draw (the former Capone replied from the spot to Caferri) which was also valuable considering the second half was played almost entirely with ten men due to Sandon’s expulsion. Brescia and Lecco, the closest pursuers, are now within 5. With young goals from Asane Sow (19 years old) and Jean-Guy Akpa Akpro (20 years old, brother of art), Pro Vercelli beats Pergolettese. In Gorzonzola, under the eyes of the Italy U20 selector Nunziata, Alcione reached Giana with time up with the penalty converted by Marconi and awarded after Fvs review.

In group B, Ascoli and Ravenna reduce the distances from the top by climbing to within one of Arezzo (tied with Terni on Saturday). Ascoli wins the highly anticipated derby with Sambenedettese, who had been missing for 39 years (and will return to the Italian Cup on Wednesday, at the Riviera delle Palme): Milanese is the one who made Del Duca explode with joy, but it is Vitale’s saves that secure the success of Tomei’s team (10 guests from the start of the second half due to the double yellow for Moussa Tourè). Ravenna was also of measure, going into full recovery on the Pianese pitch thanks to the flash of the revived Stefano Okaka, who scored more than a thousand days after the last time.

In group C Salernitana returns to success and isolates itself at the top: Casertana beaten 2-1 at Arechi with the first goals in the grenade from the rediscovered Liguori and Golemic, thus responding to the sharp placed by Catania in the afternoon. In fact, Mimmo Toscano’s team won the second consecutive direct clash, overcoming Benevento thanks to the penalty converted by Cicerelli. Behind the big teams, Cosenza relaunched, overwhelming Potenza (a brace from Ricciardi, a goal and two assists from Mazzocchi) and pushing towards the dismissal of De Giorgio together with the Lucanian sporting director De Vito. In Monopoli, Eziolino Capuano falls on his debut on the Giugliano bench. Cerignola’s crisis is not resolved, as they slip to Trapani – fourth defeat in a row – conceding two goals from a corner in the first 20′ (at the moment, however, Maiuri’s bench does not appear to be at risk). Sorrento, on the other hand, comes back from two goals against Latina (level with the former Crecco) and thus finds the seventh consecutive useful result.
