15 seasonal exemptions have already arrived at the break: a number that confirms a trend that has been constant for several years

Federico Traverso

March 25 – 2.14pm – MILAN

Change, at the gates of the break, to make a final turn and save the season with six days to go. Those of Donadoni, Andreoletti and Rubinacci are only the latest dismissals of this Serie B: out of twenty teams, ten have changed technical leadership during the championship and five have done so twice. Lorenzo Rubinacci was the fifteenth sacking of this Serie B, a championship that remains uncertain in the standings as much as on the bench. And to think that three seasons ago there were as many as 23 coaching changes…

series b, how many exemptions

With an almost always short league table, in which everything can change in a few days, Serie B is a championship in which the benches wobble a lot. In fact, in the 2022/23 season, there were 23 dismissals, 26 counting the interim managements. The 2011/12 season was even more sensational: as many as 28 changes on the bench, in a Serie B with 22 teams. Last year there were 20, with Salernitana changing 3 times (4 if we consider Sottil’s resignation in the pre-season), two years ago 19 while in 2021/22 there were 14.

changes

Three of the 15 total dismissals came in the last few days. The defeats in the last round were fatal for Padova, Reggiana and Spezia, who wanted to change course by taking advantage of the national break. All three teams – Granata and Bianconeri above all – will compete for their stay in Serie B in the next six days. Padova, after four consecutive defeats, greeted the architect of the promotion from C Andreoletti by calling Breda. The Ligurians recalled D’Angelo (the only return on the bench of the same team) after Donadoni’s management, while Bisoli arrives in the Granata, taking the place of Rubinacci who took over in the 24th minute to replace Dionigi.

TORMENTED BENCHES

Third technical guide also for Empoli, Bari and Samp. For the Blucerchiati the coaching question has now become a real nightmare, given that Lombardo is the seventh since the start of last season. Lombardo took the place of the Gregucci-Foti couple, who took over from Massimo Donati in October, while Caserta arrives after the managements of Pagliuca and Dionisi. Salvation is also an objective for Bari, led by Longo for 12 days after the Caserta and Vivarini brackets.

the others

Like Padova, Cesena, Avellino, Mantua and Pescara changed only once. The choice of the Bianconeri was recent, as they said goodbye to Mignani to bet on Ashley Cole. First the shock debut against Mantua, then the good victory in the last round against Catanzaro to secure the playoff spot. Avellino’s choice was apt as, with Ballardini, who took over from Biancolino, they have achieved three victories in the last four, moving closer to eighth place. Mantua and Pescara sail in very different waters. Modesto and Gorgone have replaced Possanzini and Vivarini and both are doing better (in terms of average points) than their predecessors. The Abruzzese are last but alive, the Lombards are in the large group of teams close to the playout zone. Where Entella is also stationed, the only team fighting not to be relegated that has not changed coach, with Chiappella firmly at the helm of the Ligurians since the beginning of the season.
