Parma Calcio was the last hurdle to the championship title – and it wasn’t too big of a problem. Inter Milan confidently secured the “Scudetto” in Serie A with a 2-0 (1-0) win.
After 35 of 38 matchdays, coach Christian Chivu’s team can no longer take first place, pursuers SSC Napoli are now twelve points behind, Inter’s local rivals AC Milan follow in third place with another three points less. Milan is still fighting for a place in the Champions League against Juventus Turin and Como Calcio.
Thuram gets the party started
Inter had secured this for a long time and on Sunday evening it became clear relatively quickly that the “Nerrazurri” would also secure their third Italian championship title after 2021 and the 21st overall in the club’s history. Milan dominated the game from the start, initially wasting a few opportunities, but shortly before the half-time whistle, Marcus Thuram’s goal opened the door to an early title party (45th + 1).
This goal was no longer scored, although Inter initially managed their lead and then missed a few chances for a clearer result. Denzel Dumfries initially missed the greatest opportunity after a cross from Federico Dimarco when he shot well over the goal from ten meters (72′). However, Inter was so stable defensively that victory and therefore the title were never in danger.
And then Milan reassured the last doubters, after an assist from Lautaro Martinez, Henrikh Mkhitaryan pushed the ball into the empty goal to make it 2-0 (80th). Afterwards, both the players and the spectators in the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium waited for the final whistle – and after that Inter were allowed to officially celebrate. But it shouldn’t be the only title of the season, on May 13th the Milanese will play the cup final against Lazio Rome.
