Sep Vanmarcke is forced to stop cycling

After the Belgian Championship in Izegem, Vanmarcke suffered from cardiac arrhythmias. Further investigations now show that the Tiegem resident has scar tissue on his heart. “If I keep racing, the scar tissue could grow and lead to heart failure in the future. It is a terribly painful decision to end my cycling career so abruptly, but there is no other option,” says Vanmarcke on his Instagram page.

The 34-year-old cyclist is grateful that the problems were discovered in time. Vanmarcke is now taking the time to give everything a place and think about the future together with his family.
